When was the last time you “went out with the girls”? If you can’t instantly answer that question, you have come to the right blog.
Hi, my name is Colleen Kleven. I am a small business owner specializing in public relations, media relations, presentation skills, and image building. I thoroughly enjoy facilitating personal and professional development seminars and delivering keynote addresses to a wide variety of interested audiences.
That said, first and foremost, I am a writer. I’ve been writing marketing materials and human interest stories for more than 25 years.
The Beginner’s Guide to Chick Night™ is my first (of many) book.
It’s been several decades since my college years, but I can’t yet see retirement from here (and that’s about as much information as you’re going to get out of me regarding my current age.) I took radio broadcasting in college and jumped headfirst into a fun and exciting career as an on-air announcer.
Although I had my eyes on eventually doing the morning show at a major market radio station, my heart took me in a different direction. I got married, moved to several different towns and cities in Northern Ontario, Canada, and spent nearly 20 years writing radio commercials and promotional campaigns. Approximately halfway through those years, I also gave birth to my son.
Between working, taking care of my household, and raising a family, life went from busy to hectic.
Somewhere along the way, I made the common mistake many women make. Without even realizing it, I allowed my “things to do” list to become more important to me than I was. I stopped getting together with friends. I stopped doing the things I like to do. I just worked.
Fortunately, a dear friend pulled me aside and pointed out the fact that I had unwittingly taken myself right off my own list of priorities. That’s when I decided to start having fun again.
Chick Night began with a simple invitation to two casual female acquaintances, asking if they would like to “go out for a visit and a chocolate dessert.” At the time, we had no way of knowing how important these Chick Nights would become in our lives.
Over a decade later, those two ladies have become true friends. We have supported each other during the challenging times, and cheered loudly for each other’s successes.
These days, I have a grown son, and a growing business that takes a lot of my energy and attention. However, thanks to Chick Night, I no longer get lost in the shuffle of my own life.
The Beginner’s Guide to Chick Night™ is a chronicle of the laughter and lessons that Bonnie, Collette, and I have learned after getting together for more than ten years of monthly Chick Nights.
I truly hope you enjoy this book, and that when you are finished reading it, you decide to start your own chapter of Chick Night.
You deserve it!
